About Us

The flagship store at 151 West 34th Street has been a New York institution since 1902, and walking through its doors still feels like an event. Wooden escalators, ornate architecture, and floor after floor of carefully curated merchandise remind you that this is not just shopping, it is a destination. With over 80,000 customer reviews averaging 4.4 stars, the numbers confirm what generations of New Yorkers and tourists already know.

The store spans an entire city block between Herald Square and Seventh Avenue, stocking everything from luxury designer labels to everyday essentials. The bedding department alone draws shoppers who come specifically for the knowledgeable staff and the sheer range of options, from budget-friendly basics to high-thread-count splurges. Staff regularly go the extra mile, including pointing customers toward online sales when that is genuinely the better deal.

For out-of-towners, Macy's Herald Square functions as a living piece of New York history. The original wooden escalators, installed decades ago, are still running. The annual Thanksgiving Day Parade starts steps from this building. Come for the shopping, stay for the spectacle.

What We Offer

Macy's Herald Square covers virtually every shopping category across nine selling floors. Women's, men's, and children's fashion occupy multiple levels, carrying everything from accessible everyday brands to contemporary designer collections. Shoes, handbags, jewelry, and beauty counters anchor the ground and lower floors with an especially deep selection of fragrances and cosmetics.

The home department is a destination in its own right, offering bedding, bath, cookware, small appliances, and furniture. Registry services make it a go-to for weddings and housewarmings. Seasonal collections refresh the floor plan throughout the year, keeping the inventory feeling current even in a store this large.

Beyond merchandise, the store offers personal styling consultations, a loyalty rewards program through Star Rewards, in-store alterations, and gift wrapping. The Santaland holiday experience draws families every December, turning the top floor into one of the most photographed pop-up events in the city.

"We stopped in to check out the historic Macy’s as well as buy some sheets. The person in the bedding department was super helpful, but ended up recommending that we order online when they went on sale the next day. I loved seeing the historic wooden escalators. And would’ve loved to have more time to shop. I did buy some shoes in the UGG shop within the store, and that was fun."
